Description

What this equipment is and what it's designed for.

LAP MENTOR EXPRESS 2 is the non-haptic platform of the LAP Mentor range for laparoscopic surgery training. It can be used as a standalone portable desktop platform or mounted on a height-adjustable tower with a touch screen, making it a portable and cost-effective solution for training programmes with different needs and budgets.

It runs the LAP Mentor module library: from basic laparoscopic skills, essential tasks and suturing to complete clinical procedures in general, gastric, bariatric, colorectal, urological, thoracic and gynaecological surgery, with scenarios that include real-time complications and injuries. The base configuration includes the laparoscopic basic skills module; the tower and procedure modules are chosen separately.

Options that extend the system

TEAM TRAINING WITH LAP MENTOR (optional):

  • The plug-and-play connection between the haptic LAP Mentor and the LAP Mentor Express combines individual and team training.
  • It provides technical practice for every participant in the procedure and reinforces non-technical skills: communication, coordination and cooperation within the team, and decision-making in routine and emergency situations.

Roles practised:

  1. Main surgeon
  2. Surgical assistant
  3. Camera assistant
  4. Uterine manipulator operator (in the hysterectomy module)
  5. Scrub nurse: instrument selection during the case using a tablet

TEAM TRAINING WITH ROBOTIX MENTOR (optional):

  • Added to the ROBOTIX MENTOR simulator, the LAP Mentor Express allows the laparoscopic assistant to work with the robotic surgeon in the same training environment, as in a real procedure.
  • The assistant practises object transfers and handoffs, removal of objects through the assisting trocars, retraction, suction and irrigation, clip application and stapling.
  • Reports detail the performance of both the robotic surgeon and the assistant.

MENTORLEARN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (optional):

  • Cloud-based management system to administer simulators, curricula and trainees.
  • Remote learning and results monitoring from anywhere.
  • Proficiency-based hands-on training.
  • Video capture of simulation sessions for debriefing.
