Description

What this equipment is and what it's designed for.

The EMERGEX MENTOR base platform brings together all the hardware of the hybrid simulator: an upper torso manikin, tracked emulated instruments, a VR headset, a display monitor, an operation touch screen and a cart that supports the manikin on the table (emergency department) or on the floor (prehospital care).

Through the headset, trainees see a virtual environment registered 1:1 with the manikin while handling a laryngoscope, ET tube, bag valve mask, stethoscope and suction tube. The system tracks the instruments inside the patient’s mouth and throat, and vital signs respond to patient management and drug administration.

The eight scenario modules are included: platform orientation and basic airway skills, advanced airway management in the emergency department (also in an autonomous mode, with no operator required) and four prehospital trauma scenarios. The MentorLearn management system provides feedback and objective performance metrics.

Knowledge

What you learn

Patient simulator modality. The competencies this equipment trains, in the language of the training plan.

  • Assess the airway with the LEMON method and anticipate a difficult intubation.
  • Perform the complete tracheal intubation workflow: pre-oxygenation, drug-assisted sedation, tube placement and confirmation.
  • Apply techniques such as jaw thrust and the BURP manoeuvre.
  • Handle emulated instruments: laryngoscope, ET tube, bag valve mask, stethoscope and suction tube.
  • Make rapid clinical decisions in prehospital trauma scenarios following PHTLS-aligned protocols.
  • Respond to dynamic complications and to vital signs that change with patient management and drug administration.
  • Stay focused on the patient in stressful, distracting environments.
Knowledge

Cases and pathologies

The clinical scenarios that can be simulated with this equipment.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:
  • Platform orientation: headset set-up, interface navigation and hardware calibration
  • Airway management, basic skills: LEMON assessment and full intubation with real-time instructions and visual cues
EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT: ADVANCED AIRWAY MANAGEMENT:
  • Critically ill patients with severe respiratory compromise: hypoxia, fever and altered mental status
  • Complete tracheal intubation across patients with varying physiological reserve and clinical complexity
  • Operator-assisted and autonomous training modes
PREHOSPITAL EMERGENCIES (EMS):
  • Car accident: multi-trauma
  • Street shooting: haemorrhagic shock from penetrating gunshot wounds
  • Bar fight: lacerations and bleeding wounds
  • Burning building: inhalation injuries and burns

  • Tracked emulated instruments: laryngoscope, ET tube, bag valve mask, stethoscope and suction tube.
  • VR headset, VR display monitor, operation touch screen, tracking system and PC.
  • Cart that adapts to hospital settings (manikin on the cart) or prehospital settings (manikin on the floor).
TACTILE REALISM AND TRACKING:
  • 1:1 registration between the virtual environment and the physical manikin, with precise movement tracking.
  • Tactile sensation of the instruments inside the patient's mouth and throat.
  • Precise monitoring of ET tube insertion and pre-ventilation levels.
VERSATILE SCENARIOS:
  • Switch patient and scenario with a single gesture, with no additional staff or materials.
  • A range of difficulty levels, patient anatomies, injury types, levels of consciousness and surroundings.
  • Dynamic complications and vital signs that respond to patient management and drug administration.
CLINICAL AND FIELD USE:
  • Ergonomically designed for table-based hospital scenarios and floor-based EMS set-ups.
  • Operator-assisted or autonomous training: in the autonomous training module all controls are accessible within the headset.
  • No consumables, specialised staff or dedicated facilities needed.
ASSESSMENT AND MENTORLEARN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM:
  • Performance assessment at the end of each simulation.
  • MentorLearn provides feedback and objective performance metrics to measure progress.
