Description

What this equipment is and what it's designed for.

This transparent model reproduces the laryngopharynx in three dimensions, from the oropharynx to the hypopharynx. It is useful for explaining and understanding the complex structure of the laryngopharynx, and can be used as a model in the training of staff working in swallowing therapy or when informing patients and their families.
Features
– The model can be separated along the midline.
– The epiglottis, the piriform sinus and the glottis are faithfully reproduced, and the depth of the piriform sinus and of the laryngeal vestibule can be appreciated.
– The complex three-dimensional structure of the laryngopharynx is grasped intuitively thanks to the visualisation. The passage of food can also be seen from the outside
(real liquids can be used).
– It makes it possible to teach the importance of food preparation and of posture when eating on the basis of an understanding of the three-dimensional structure of the laryngopharynx. The difficulty of coughing up accidentally aspirated food is also understood.
– When teaching videoendoscopy of swallowing, the area that is
being observed can be identified by visually comparing the endoscopic images with the model.
– The state of occlusion of the oesophagus can be represented with a line that helps to create a mental image.
