Description
What this equipment is and what it's designed for.
The model reproduces a female pelvis mounted on a stand, with two interchangeable fetal heads — one full-term and one premature — attached to a flexible shaft that allows them to pass through the pelvic outlet in different positions.
Both heads have a skull with palpable cranial sutures and anterior and posterior fontanelles, allowing the fetal anatomy involved in birth to be explained and the use of forceps or vacuum-assisted delivery to be demonstrated.
It is a teaching resource designed to visually show the mechanism of labour and the different positions the fetus can take as it descends through the canal.
