Description

What this equipment is and what it's designed for.

NeedleTrainer solves the underlying problem in ultrasound-guided needling training: to practise you need a patient, and on a patient you do not practise. Here you needle a real person — a colleague, a model — with a needle that retracts on contact and never breaks the skin.

The ultrasound machine shows the real image of that person with the needle superimposed at the exact position and angle at which it is being held. The trainee learns the part that is genuinely hard: aligning the needle with the probe plane, keeping the tip in view and correcting the trajectory without losing it.

It comes in two formats: Z2, in a hard transport case, and V2, mounted on a trolley. It works with the wireless scanners supplied or with the centre’s own SonoSite ultrasound machines, depending on the configuration.

Knowledge

What you learn

Patient simulator modality. The competencies this equipment trains, in the language of the training plan.

  • Aligning the needle with the probe plane, in-plane and out-of-plane.
  • Keeping the tip in view throughout the pass.
  • Correcting the trajectory without losing the reference.
  • Ultrasound-guided vascular access.
  • Ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve block.

Knowledge

Cases and pathologies

The clinical scenarios that can be simulated with this equipment.

The anatomy is that of the volunteer being scanned, so every session presents a different and real case. The modules add vascular access and peripheral nerve block targets.
