Description

What this equipment is and what it's designed for.

The model reproduces the thorax of an adult male with raised arms, including the clavicle, ribs, manubriosternal joint, nipple and pleural cavity. The right side is sectioned to show the relationship between skin, musculature, ribs and lung; the left side allows simulation of tension pneumothorax and surgical chest tube placement.

It supports practice of needle decompression at the second and fifth intercostal spaces, chest drainage for tension pneumothorax, closed thoracic drainage and post-operative tube care, and management of pleural effusion. A ‘pop’ is felt as the needle enters the thoracic cavity, and reservoirs of air and simulated fluid (colour, volume and viscosity set by the instructor) reproduce the release of air or effusion.

Skin pads are replaceable.
