Description

What this equipment is and what it's designed for.

Baby Libby is a silicone birthing manikin of a 26-week premature baby with gastroschisis, a congenital abdominal wall defect with externalised bowel. It is designed for delivery room scenarios in which the educator wants to include recognition of the defect and its initial management as part of the birth.

The externalised bowel serves as a realistic visual cue for the learner to identify the defect and respond appropriately: bowel protection, sterile covering, thermoregulation and stabilisation before surgical referral. It also allows practice of UAC and UVC umbilical access and bag-valve-mask ventilation with visible chest rise.
