What this equipment is and what it's designed for.
Designed for teaching and training with vacuum-assisted closure and negative pressure wound therapy devices, this model presents a large stage 4 sacral pressure injury, with eschar, subcutaneous fat, undermining, tunnelling, slough and exposed bone (with osteomyelitis), and a stage 3 pressure injury with subcutaneous fat and granulation tissue. The size and depth of the stage IV pressure injury, together with the undermining and the tunnelling, make it ideal for practising correct dressing and the preparation of a large wound for use with a negative pressure therapy device. The stage 3 pressure injury is positioned so that the stage 4 injury can be covered separately or a “bridging” dressing can be applied over both, in order to demonstrate and practise this technique.
