Description

What this equipment is and what it's designed for.

The S.A.L.A.D. (Suction Assisted Laryngoscopy and Airway Decontamination) simulator uses suction to improve first-attempt laryngoscopy success in a non-anaesthetised patient with active vomiting.
– Simulates a non-anaesthetised patient for practising intubation, ventilation and suctioning.
– Practise oral, digital and nasal intubation, as well as the insertion of an endotracheal tube, E.O.A., P.T.L., laryngeal mask, Combitube and King System.
– Allows suctioning techniques and correct cuff inflation with active vomiting.
– The anatomy and landmarks include teeth, tongue, oral and nasal pharynx, larynx, epiglottis, arytenoids, ventricular bands, vocal cords, trachea, oesophagus and cricoid cartilage.
– Offers room to manoeuvre and a slightly anterior position, which makes it suitable both for introductory classes and for advanced students.
– Apply cricoid pressure to change the position of the trachea and close the oesophagus.
– The rigid suction catheter displaces the jaw and the tongue to allow insertion of the laryngoscope.
– Practise Sellick’s manoeuvre realistically.
– Manual carotid pulse.
– Includes the head of the Airway Larry adult airway management trainer, a suction container with 2 angled tube adaptors, a jug with hand pump, two latex-free simulated lungs, thickener, a rigid suction catheter, two 1 m lengths of clear vinyl tubing, spray lubricant, 5 red plugs with white fittings, tube connectors, 5 closing clamps, a no. 10 spanner and a case with a handle.

Cases and pathologies

The clinical scenarios that can be simulated with this equipment.

This simulator makes it possible to recreate the contaminated airway and its complications:
  • Active emesis during laryngoscopy
  • Risk of bronchoaspiration
  • Airway obstruction due to copious secretions
  • Difficult intubation in the non-anaesthetised patient
  • Failed intubation requiring an alternative device
