Description

What this equipment is and what it's designed for.

BE.DENT.PRO is an augmented reality multitask simulator that assesses integrated clinical competences in a realistic environment, with real-time 3D visualisation. It goes beyond manual skill and cavity preparation: the learner works through a complete case, from history taking to the final report.

The technical difference is in the tracking. Work is done with a real handpiece and typodont, with no trackers attached: microsensors mounted in the handpiece are tracked in six degrees of freedom at up to 240 Hz, so the learner holds a normal instrument and calibration is automatic. Augmented reality shows the position of the handpiece in real time and returns feedback in a 3D rendering similar to a digital scan.

The training path has six blocks: log in with personal credentials and choose a case from more than 60, across three dental specialties; history taking, with the patient’s complaints, medical history and a question bank from which the learner selects what matters; radiography, with a positioner that teaches how to place the tooth in the image and an unlimited number of exposures; anaesthesia, to practise periodontal, nerve block and infiltration techniques by choosing agent, vasoconstrictor and needle length against the nerve and muscle anatomy of the jaw; tooth preparation; and the report, with real video capture synchronised to the 3D player, which allows ergonomics and posture to be reviewed and records what each learner actually did.

Knowledge

What you learn

Task trainer modality. The competencies this equipment trains, in the language of the training plan.

  • Take the clinical history by selecting the relevant questions from the question bank.
  • Obtain the radiograph with the positioner and assess the position of the tooth on the image.
  • Choose the anaesthetic agent, the vasoconstrictor and the needle length for each technique.
  • Prepare the cavity with a real handpiece, with its position tracked in real time.
  • Review ergonomics and posture on the video capture of the procedure itself.
