Description

What this equipment is and what it's designed for.

Adult Male Torso (Dynamic) with a beating heart and breathable lungs is a lifelike, anatomically realistic, from neck to pelvic area phantom/simulator with all the essential organs present inside. This phantom is compatible with MRI and X-Ray/CT, and it is an ideal tool for applications such as angiography. The organs are made from realistic urethane-based tissue-mimicking materials, and the bones are made from a patented ceramic-reinforced epoxy-based composite material. The skeleton is assembled from individually cast bones with vertebrae that have a realistic three-layered structure and inner porosity. This phantom can be used with Barium-sulfate, Iodine-based, Gadolinium-based, Microbubble, and Iron Oxide-based contrast mediums.

In terms of MRI applications, the phantom tissues have realistic T2 relaxation time values, which makes this product to be the best fit for any T2-weighted MRI imaging methods. Very good results can also be achieved with proton-density imaging methods. The phantom can still be imaged with T1-weighted methods, but the T1 values are less realistic, and they are within the range of about 100 ms.

The design of this phantom includes a realistic heart with all major heart vessels and internal heart chambers. The TPS heart pump can be included with this phantom, and it enables the realistic heartbeat and motion of heart walls. The TPS lung pump can also be included to provide lifelike breathing motion in the torso .

Note: By default, the phantom comes in a translucent amber appearance. The skin feature can be included upon request.

All standard phantoms are coated with a protective layer of the harder urethane rubber to offer enhanced appearance and safeguard the phantom from any scratches when handled without care. This coated layer also provides a glossy finish and slightly changes the hardness of the phantom. The Hardness [Shore 00] for the ‘Body Tissue’ mentioned above is measured without the coat layer. The coat will increase the hardness by approximately 30 points meaning that if the body tissue hardness is OO 35, the coated body tissue will be OO 65.

Pumps not included. The beating heart and breathable lungs require the heart pump V5 (Ref. 14489) and the lung pump V2 (Ref. 14490), sold separately.

Knowledge

What you learn

Task trainer modality. The competencies this equipment trains, in the language of the training plan.

  • Work with motion and with the artefacts it causes.
  • Work through the trunk windows systematically.
  • Position and centre the specimen for each projection or slice plane.
  • Choose the radiographic technique and check its effect on the image.
  • Adjust the CT protocol and assess the result on the reconstructions.
  • Try out MRI sequences and compare the contrast between tissues.
