Description
What this equipment is and what it's designed for.
This self-assembly kit contains all the parts needed (stand included) to build a right-handed DNA double helix of 12 base pairs (B-DNA). The parts are colour-coded and have characteristic shapes: the deoxyribose is pentagonal, the phosphates are cylindrical and the nitrogenous bases show their characteristic pyrimidine or purine structure. Two different central linking pieces represent the 2 and 3 hydrogen bonds between thymine/adenine and cytosine/guanine. The assembled model is useful for showing the most singular features of the structure and topology of double-stranded DNA.
