Description

What this equipment is and what it's designed for.

The SmartMan Airway Management Training System is designed to train and improve performance of invasive and non-invasive airway procedures and skills. The lifelike airway simulator provides the structure of the pharynx and trachea in advanced materials, with accurate simulation and location of mouth, teeth, tongue, pharynx, larynx, epiglottis, vocal cords, trachea and oesophagus, and usable lungs for both non-invasive and invasive procedures.

The lungs sit within a torso, which provides natural resistance on inhalation and exhalation and adds further authenticity to the training. Head, torso and data in one product.

Non-invasive ventilation (BLS airway)

Practise how to correctly provide a patient with air through a Bag Valve Mask: attaining a correct seal, correct lifting and tilting of the head to open the airway, and delivery of the correct volume of air over the correct amount of time. The torso provides very realistic pressure when squeezing the BVM, and the digital feedback gives an accurate graph and time for the volume and rate at which the BVM was squeezed, leaving the user a record of their performance.

Invasive ventilation (intubation)

Invasive procedures require correct positioning of the head and correct identification of landmarks in the airway. This simulator has proper visual landmarks and requires the sniffing position. It is suitable for endotracheal (ET) and orotracheal tubes and other extra laryngeal devices; the recommended sizes for training are an endotracheal tube of 7.0 or 7.5 mm and a laryngeal mask in sizes 3 and 4.

Real time feedback

  • Ventilation practice with natural resistance
  • Time and efficiency of ET tube placement, and a check that the cuff is not leaking
  • Immediate review of volume and rate, with an overall score for the whole procedure
  • Real time ventimeter: the movement of air into the lungs displayed as it occurs, true to volume and rate of flow
  • Colour feedback during ventilations for volume, rate of airflow and time between ventilations
  • Feedback can be turned on and off with a single button

Delta Tidal Flow Interaction System (DTFIS)

The Delta Tidal Flow Interaction System is a proprietary technology found only in SmartMan. It provides accurate measurement, an excellent physical feel and a real time digital display of the volume, rate and timing of air moving in and out of the lungs as it relates to the movement of the chest. You physically feel when the compressor and the ventilator are working against each other, and you hear the suctioning sound of a misdiagnosed bucking the tube just as in a real patient.

The software is plug and play with free updates, no user fees and no requirement to register. Internet is not required, and batteries are not required unless the wireless version is ordered.

No limit on the number of users, no user fees, no batteries and free software updates. The software runs on Microsoft Windows 10 or 11; the PC is not included. All SmartMan products carry a one year warranty, extendable to cover years 2 and 3.
