With the NeedleTrainer ultrasound-guided puncture simulator you can safely and effectively train ultrasound-guided invasive procedures. It uses its retractable, invasive needle during real-time scanning on a real subject.

NeedleTrainer superimposes virtual images of a needle on high-quality ultrasound images to enable training of ultrasound-guided techniques. These are, for example: nerve blocks, epidural, venous access, amniocentesis, paracentesis, etc.

Tailored to the specifications of your procedure NeedleTrainer allows customisation of the virtual needle simulation according to the requirements of the procedure & specialty. The latest generation includes a GE Healthcare Vscan™ Air which provides an all-in-one training solution for any medical training programme teaching ultrasound-guided puncture, allowing centres to adapt to new curriculum requirements on learning these skills without impacting clinical hours or patient safety.

CHARACTERISTICS

GENERAL:

  • NeedleTrainer uses a retractable needle and virtual image overlays to simulate non-invasive needle application in a live participant using authentic, live ultrasound.
  • This allows learners to develop hand-eye coordination, optimal positioning and accuracy in ultrasound-guided interventional procedures in a safe and realistic clinical environment.
  • Practice needle-probe coordination skills, in any body habitus, during real-time scanning on a real subject.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Composed of the training system, a live ultrasound machine and an anatomical or real patient.
  • The puncture is performed anywhere on the volunteer with the probe and a retractable syringe.
  • A live ultrasound feed is fed directly into the system.
  • A high-fidelity visualisation of a needle is displayed live on the screen to help develop the hand-eye coordination skills necessary for safe and accurate needle placement in ultrasound-guided interventional procedures.
