CASES AND PATHOLOGIES

TURP BASIC SKILLS:

• This module contains basic tasks to acquire all skills required to safely perform a complete TURP procedure.
• The module also provides a training curriculum relying on self practice in an enjoyable environment until reaching the desired proficiency level.

LASER BPH:

• With the Laser BPH Module, urologists can practice their basic skills and even perform a full procedure laser BPH on different patient scenarios.
• The eight complete patient cases differ in the size of the prostate, in the bleeding affinity of the virtual patient and in possible complications that may arise. For some patients, a median lobe removal solves the problem.
• In other cases hypertrophies of both lateral lobes make the intervention more challenging.

TURP PROCEDURES (RESECTION OF THE PROSTATE):

• Cases include small to large prostates with hypertrophies of both lateral and median lobes, presenting challenges such as difficult access and heavy bleeding.

TURB (BLADDER TUMORS):

• Four patients with different multiple papillary and solid tumors offer the trainee the opportunity to practice performing a complete TURB procedure in a safe environment: remove bladder tumors in various locations ranging from easily accessible to difficult to reach locations, control bleeding and manage complications, and avoid perforating the thin bladder wall.

CHARACTERISTICS

GENERAL: An adapted, original resectoscope is used to provide a complete simulation experience and to facilitate familiarization with hysteroscopic instruments. As in real life, the resectoscope features:

• In – and outlet valves for fluid handling
• Three virtual cameras: 0º, 12º and 30º for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including a focus wheel
• A passive working element for electro-surgery including a foot pedal for electrosurgical cutting and coagulation in simulated procedures

PHOTOREALISTIC SIMULATION:

• Learners gain experience in identifying the anatomical landmarks, cystoscopy, performing a safe resection, and in controlling bleeding. The
• TURP Mentor simulates the important challenges of the procedure including:
• Establishing clear viewing conditions
• Identifying anatomical landmarks and obtaining a clear 3D mental image of the anatomy
• Resecting the prostate while safely handling the loop electrode
• Coagulating bleeding sources with the loop electrode

MASTERING INSTRUMENTS:

• An adapted, original resectoscope is used to provide a complete simulation experience and to facilitate familiarization with instruments.

MANAGEMENT AND ASSESSMENT (ADMINISTRATORS MODE):

• Creation and organization of new users
• An optional Guest account
• Tracking and assessing skills development of trainees. The objective feedback is archived and always accessible to both trainee and trainer
• Generating extensive statistics of an individual or a group performance, which can also be used for studies and future certification
